This year’s program will build on the achievements of last year’s program while focusing more attention on individual player development.

The WNY Flash Junior Academy Director, Gary Bruce will be the principal facilitator with the support of WNY Flash Academy Director Rob Ferguson. Both coaches maintain USSF ‘A’ Licenses while Rob also has a USSF National Youth License and the NSCAA Goal Keeper Diploma. This program will include four key areas of development – Coaching Development, House-League Advancement, Position Specific Training and the WNY Flash Watch List.

Coaching Development – In an effort to provide all of our coaches with the tools and techniques that they need to be successful, the WNY Flash will provide a 12-week digital training curriculum prior to the start of the season. The curriculum will involve fundamental player development session plans to improve all players while including easy-to-follow progressions so that players of all skill levels will be challenged. The curriculum will be explained and demonstrated during a 1.5-hour clinic for all coaches. In addition to this pre-season assistance, WNY Flash coaches will be attending four house-league training dates for all ages, one U6 training session and one U4 training session. The coaches are also available to any travel coach that requests assistance.

House-League Advancement – In addition to games, all house-league teams will train once a week on Monday nights at Optimist Park. Each team will follow the WNY Flash 12-week curriculum with periodic support from WNY Flash Coaches during the training sessions. House-league players aged U14-18 will be divided into teams each week and will play games during this time.

Position Specific Training – The WNY Flash will provide 10-weeks of position specific training on Tuesdays at Ferndale Park from May 29 to August 7 (no training the week of July 4). This training will provide more advanced coaching in the disciplines of Goalkeeper Skills, Offensive Techniques and Defensive Techniques. These will be 1-hour technical sessions that are designed into games so that your child is having fun while learning more about these techniques. Each session will be capped at 20 participants/discipline/week with an online pre-registration. Each week will be designed for a specific age group and skill level which will be open to both house-league and travel participants.

WNY Flash Watch List – Over the course of this season, Greater Fort Erie Youth Soccer Club and WNY Flash Coaches will evaluate all of the players in our house-league and travel programs. U7–13 players who are recognized as having a relatively high skill level will have the opportunity to participate in three 1-hour sessions in August that will be facilitated by WNY Flash Staff. Players that excel in these sessions will have the opportunity for further player development advancement with the WNY Flash Academy.

All WNY Flash Programs and Training Sessions are included in your registration. There is no cost to attend these sessions. Further information on the this program and the WNY Flash can be found at the following links - &
